Low Blood Glucose Readings

If your blood glucose is below 20 mg/dL, you will receive a “Lo.” Repeat

the test with a new test strip. If this message shows again, contact your

healthcare professional immediately!

Contact your physician for advice if test results are very low

(below 70

mg/dL) and/or you have symptoms of low blood glucose. Symptoms of

low blood glucose include sweating, shakiness, trembling, blurred vision,

hunger, headache, confusion, rapid heartbeat, or tingling or numbness

around the mouth or ﬁngertips. Symptoms will vary person to person. You

may have one or all of these symptoms.

Diabetes Findings

In 1993, the National Institute of Health concluded an extensive long-term study

of people with Type 1 diabetes. This study, called the Diabetes Control and

Complications Trial (DCCT), found that by keeping your blood glucose close to the

levels of people without diabetes you can reduce the risk of complications involving

the eyes, kidneys, and nervous system by approximately 60%
